The Department of Dynamics and Control has descended from the Research Division of General Mechanics of the former faculty of Science. General Mechanics in Beihang University was one of the first majors in China to offer PhD and Master’s degree programs, and is also one of the first postdoctoral research stations. The subject of Dynamics and Control (General Mechanics) in Beihang University is a key state level-two subject. The Department is offering core course of Theoretical Mechanics for undergraduate students and core and selective courses for graduate students.
Our faculty has long been engaged in the theoretical research in nonlinear dynamics and multi-body dynamics in the field of dynamics and control, as well as in the application in aviation, aerospace, machinery, life science and other fields. Our research results have a national and international impact in academic community. Our research emphasizes on theoretical basis of mechanics, mathematics, nonlinear dynamics and control through advanced analytical and computational methods. Our faculty has rich experiences in theory of dynamics and control as well as applied research, which lays a solid foundation for international cooperation and exchange.
Over the years, our faculty have undertaken and participated numerous projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation and the Ministry of Education of China. We have been awarded one National Natural Science Award (Qishao Lu, 2003), one first-prize of Tianjin Municipal Natural Science Award and dozens of other ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards. We have published a great number of Engineering Index(EI), Index to Scientific and Technical Proceedings (ISTP) and over 200 SCI academic papers. We have trained more than 30 doctoral and postdoctoral students. One of them won the National Outstanding Youth Fund, two of them got the 100 Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award Nominations, and several of them obtained qualifications for professorship and PhD supervisors.
Our dedicated faculty have made brilliant achievements and gained a high reputation in course development, teaching reform and textbooks writing and editing. "Theoretical Mechanics" for undergraduates has been established as a national level excellent course. We have edited one excellent textbook for Beijing and several textbooks for national higher education from the Ninth Five-Year Plan to the Twelfth Five-Year Plan. We have presided over and participated in one educational reform project of the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality respectively.
The department boasts a strong teaching team with superior teaching performance. Professor Wang, Qi won the First National Prestigious Teachers Award; A teacher specializing in Theoretical Mechanics won Young Teachers' Teaching Competition Grand Prize. We also won 2 national-level second prizes for teaching achievements through cooperation with teachers from the Department of Material Mechanics. The teaching team of basic mechanics won the title of National Outstanding Teaching Team.
All of our members of teaching faculty have Ph.D. degrees. We have 2 professors (PhD supervisors), 5 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 7 MA supervisors.
